Green Lakes 50K

After learning that I would be on call for my job during the weekend of August 15th I decided I needed to choose another race for August. Therefore I researched states I had not raced in before. The final decision was the Green Lakes 50K in Fayetteville, New York. The deciding factor would be my new friend chrissy.
I chose to take friday off of work to pack for the race. I left for New York on Saturday around 08:30 A.M. the weather and traffic was clear until around around the middle of Pensylvania, then it became quite foggy and started to rain. It didn't let up until the next day.
Next day I awoke at 04:30, hopped into the shower and off to the race site. With a small bit of trouble within the park grounds I located the race site, parked, and made it up the hill to the race tents. Around 06:30 I noticed a familiar face It was my new friend Chrissy and her older sister. 06:45 rolled around and we were off to the start of the Green Lakes 50K. The course consisted of four loops of 12.5K.
After roughly a mile of moderately flat packed dirt trail. The trail lead to a rather large hill, and onto the second part a rolling grassy plain stretching for another four and a half miles. The course overlooked some of the very bountiful awe inspiring sights. Then as soon as we had left the forested area we were back and with newton's law what goes up must come down. And so it is we ran down for around a half of a mile. Turned and headed straight for around a mile and a half finally reaching the last area. From that point on we were in the mainstay of the park. Lastly we ran past the lake, the parking lot, up a hill and finally up to the Race tent. Completing this loop four times we proceeded into the finish, 6 hours and 52 minutes later. Soon after I left the state of New York with an accomplishment of another state under my belt, and a renewed friendship.
